HCPC Registration English Language Requirements 2025

There's an important update regarding the English language proficiency requirements set by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) that will come into effect starting 29th January 2025.

What's Changing?

From 29th January 2025, international applicants will need to meet new criteria to demonstrate their English language proficiency:

  1. Self-declaration of English as a First Language: This will no longer be accepted as a means to fulfill the language requirements.
  2. Qualifying Countries List: Applicants who obtained their primary qualification from a country on this list can use their degree as proof of their language skills.
  3. Approved English Language Tests: All other applicants must prove their language proficiency through approved tests, including the newly recognized Occupational English Test (OET), alongside existing tests such as IELTS and TOEFL.

Transition Period:

Please note that any applications submitted from 00:01 GMT on 29th January 2025 will need to comply with the new requirements. Applications started prior to this date will be governed by the current standards. It means if you do not have proof of English language proficiency it is advised to submit your application to HCPC before 29th January 2025.
